Preparing For A Corporate Headshots Photoshoot
Working with an experienced company headshots photographer is a great start! Here are some key considerations when planning your shoot. I am happy to discuss these in more detail to ensure your shoot is a success.
Location: Photography Studio, Your Workplace, Or Elsewhere?
The first thing you need to consider when doing a headshot photoshoot is where you want to take your photos.
Shooting indoors is easiest as we have full control of the light and the weather can’t interfere. I bring professional studio lighting and a backdrop and can set up in your office or workplace. Large meeting rooms are ideal, but we can also use smaller meeting rooms, receptions, kitchen areas, and other open spaces. There are also photography studios available to hire across Sydney, so we can easily find one near you.
Shooting outdoors is also a great option. You need to pick a location where there are no distractions in the background. You should also consider what else might be happening if it’s a public space. We need permits for some locations, for example anywhere around the Opera House or in the Botanical Gardens. Finally bear in mind where the sun will be. Schedule the shoot so you’re not squinting!
Clothing: What’s Best For A Professional Headshot?
You can wear anything you want for your headshot photo as long as it is appropriate for your role and your brand. Make sure to choose clothing that will make you look professional in your field. In general, avoid wearing bold clothing with large logos or brands (except your own!).
Makeup For Business Headshots
Generally, I recommend using your normal makeup. However, if you usually apply little or no makeup I advise using a little more for the photoshoot. At the very least, using a matt powder minimises any shine if you have naturally more oily skin. But equally don’t overdo it; you still want to look like the real you.
Hairstyle For A Great Headshot
You can style your hair any way you want. And if you can’t decide on one hairstyle, we can take your headshots with different hairstyles. I can arrange for a professional hair stylist to be on site. Bear in mind that even the lightest wind can make things challenging if we’re shooting outside.
Expression
I usually recommend smiling as for most people it gives a warm, friendly and confident impression. Some people do look great with a more serious expression. I always capture a range of expressions so you have lots to choose from. Remember, when someone sees your business headshot photo it’s like the first time they meet you. So you want to make a good impression and portray yourself just as if you’re meeting in real life.
